How WordQ Empowers Learners with Autism
Sunday April 2nd marks Autism Acceptance Day, a day which holds a great deal of importance to us. From day one, we have been committed to making reading, writing and communication more inclusive of all needs, and autism is an area of particular importance to us. So, in honour of the day, we thought we’d take you through just some of the ways WordQ has helped and continues to help learners on the spectrum.
A History of Accessibility
For over 20-years, WordQ has made reading and writing more accessible for learners with autism.
WordQ is designed to accommodate a wide variety of needs. Its features can be turned on and off as needed, ensuring that each WordQ experience is as unique as the learner using it. Whether you need assistance dictating, finding a place to start on the page, or just want to make the overall writing process easier, WordQ is here to help.
We’ve had many autistic nonverbal clients that, through the use of WordQ’s predictive text, have been able to bring their ideas to life with ease. Countless clients with autism have used our speech recognition and proofreading features to write, revise and edit; allowing many to write independently for the first time.
A Commitment to Inclusivity
The fact of the matter is, autism is a spectrum. The needs of one individual on the spectrum may not be the same as another. The diverse needs of our clients and users on the spectrum exemplifies this.
WordQ has even helped members of our team! Our Marketing Specialist Will, is openly on the spectrum. For him, he finds having a place to start on a project challenging, and thus uses the ThoughtQ dynamic topics to drive his research.
While there is no one “exclusive” set of needs for the autism community, we are dedicated to providing literacy solutions that put the needs of the individual above all else.
